I don’t feel like writing today.
But I will do it anyway.
Human willpower is a strange thing. It comes from doing things you don’t want to.
And if you start giving in to your desires, your willpower will become shallow.
This reminds me of a story that I read as a kid.
During the Middle Ages, there lived a young king who inherited a strong kingdom.
His favourite sport was hunting.
It was his escape from the walls of his castles and heavy responsibilities.
One day, the young king met an old man during his hunt.
Wisdom sprouted from the white eyebrows of the old man.
The king went near the old man and felt like asking him for a piece of advice.
King: Wise one, can you offer me some advice on how to rule my kingdom better?
Old man: Curiosity about the nature of wisdom surely turns a young king into a great king. Remember these words;
“Before conquering vast lands, conquer your own desires first. True wisdom and peace come from within, not from external power or wealth.”
King: Golden words. I am grateful. Ask me anything.
Old man: Why should I ask my slave for anything?
King: I am The King, not a slave. I can have your head for this.
Old man: You are a slave of your desires, and my desires are my slave. So, you are my slave.
King: Wise words, old man. Is there anything I can do for you?
Old man: You can step aside, you are blocking my sunlight. It keeps me warm.
When I read this story, I realized that true freedom and power is mastering oneself.
During my LinkedIn Top Voice Series, everyone mentioned their struggle with consistency.
And this is no easy feat.
Coming up with something new, unique and valuable for your audience daily is hard.
This requires nerves of steel and a stoic mindset.
You should keep going no matter what.
That is why, I didn’t want to miss today’s Sunday Growth Dairies.
I started this series so that I could:
👉 Keep track of my journey
👉 Document my processes
👉 Plan for the next week
And most importantly share my journey with my subscribers.
✔️ The decisions I’ve made in the past week
✔️ The hurdles I’ve jumped
✔️ The lessons learned along the way
As another week on my journey to 1 million subscribers wraps up.
Here’s what’s been happening behind the scenes at The Notion Millionaire.
Weekly Overview
Well, I have shared my week’s doing in yesterday’s issue.
I am not going to repeat that and bore you.
I missed last week’s Growth Diaries as well.
Let’s move to what’s next.
In The Spotlight
There was one week in the day when there was no newsletter.
For those who are new, here is the structure of The Notion Millionaire Newsletter:
- Monday till Wednesday – Focus Framework Days
- Thursday – TNM Weekly Issue
- Friday – Nothing/Ideas Sprouting
- Saturday – Leadership Insights
- Sunday – Growth Diaries
For Friday, I had planned an email course.
Everyone else is offering the same thing.
So, I decided to do something different.
Here is what I have planned for every Friday – The Freelance Magazine.
It will be a weekly magazine and exclusively for platinum members only.
Other than this, here are things which I will be working in the next week:
Expansion and iteration in The Golden Strategy.
I read 2-3 cool things in the book – Sell Like Crazy by Sabri Suby.
And it makes sense to add those things in there as well.
If I want to grow my agency and scale my media company.
This is very important.
I have secured another partnership.
This is very crucial for growth at this stage.
I will be honest with you.
The amount of clarity I’ve had in the past week is enormous.
I have figured out:
- Kind of employees that I want
- Kind of partnerships I want to secure
- Kind of tasks I want to outsource
Plus, I have a bigger vision for my company.
If everything goes according to plan, my company will transit from small to medium size in the upcoming fiscal year.
Which is huge.
Most of this inspiration came from watching Narcos Mexico.
Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo.
A truly fascinating figure.
Unfortunately, he was in a dirty business.
Lesson Learnt
Lesson # 1 – Long-term partnerships are based on a win-win situation.
I have set up a few partnerships which have brought me a good amount of business.
Around 20% of my revenue comes from partnerships now.
Because I am a big advocate of “Don’t put all eggs in one basket”
Especially when it comes to revenue.
I help them with something that no one is willing to do at a low price.
So, win-win.
Lesson # 2 – Hiring is the first rule of management.
I talk a lot about management.
And most of that is personal management.
I do not have extensive experience in managing a big team.
That is why, I am building my team up slowly.
To scale, you need people. The right people.
They will take your business to the next level.
Without the people, no company can exist.
Without the right people, no company can grow.
Who are these right people?
I read this concept in “Good to Great by James C. Collins”
You can learn it from there as well.
That is all from my side.
I will see you tomorrow.
Hoping to pick up the pace when I am back in the office.
Where my creative juices flow like a waterfall.
Until tomorrow, Armano.
Adios,
