It Is Important In Marketing To Know What Not To Do

by Talha X

Your boy is back with another episode of Sunday Growth Diaries.

I started this Sunday Growth Dairies so that I can:

👉 Keep track of my journey

👉 Document my processes

👉 Plan for the next week

And most importantly share my journey with my subscribers.

✔️ The decisions I’ve made in the past week

✔️ The hurdles I’ve jumped

✔️ The lessons learned along the way

As another week on my journey to 1 million subscribers wraps up.

Here’s what’s been happening behind the scenes at The Notion Millionaire.

With that weekly ritual out of the way, let’s see how my performance was last week.

I want you to be my judge.

You have the power here.

Hold me accountable for my last week’s action.

The more, I am on track, the more value you guys will get.

The more TNM grow, the better things will come out of this for you.

Weekly Overview

This week was on refining my strategy. Connecting with my audience on mass.

  • Target vs Reality
    • The goal for the week: Refine my strategy. Understand my audience on a deeper level.
    • Achieved: At this point, I have a better understanding of which platforms to target. And Which to leave out.
  • Milestones
    • The first blog is ready to be published on the website. So excited for it.
  • Things I need to focus on:
    • Community. I haven’t been able to work on this one yet. This will be a top priority in the next week.
    • The second top priority would be to publish content on all marketing channels.
    • My third top priority is to up my design and branding game. I feel that it can be improved. My coach is keen on improving this as well.
  • Numbers for this week

This week, I decided to share my newsletter numbers with you.

So that you know, what is working and what is not.

My MRR has increased by 100% this past week.

My newsletter engagement is at 83%.

I have already shared my next week’s focus above. No need to repeat it.

Strategic Insights

Marketing

There are a ton of things going on in my marketing department right now.

We are thinking of launching on:

  • Product hunt
  • Etsy
  • Notion marketplace
  • Amazon

This will be done after streamlining our community initiative.

We will soon move our community to the website.

We are not active in Slack.

And I am part of many Slack communities. Most of the people are not active on Slack.

It just feels like an office place, rather than a place to hang out.

We are also looking to start promoting our newsletter on the following channels:

  • Pinterest
  • Behance
  • Dribble
  • Quora
  • Reddit
  • Indie Hackers
  • Medium

Most of the content will be repurposed snippets of blogs or newsletters.

Then, SEO is also being considered.

Next quarter, we are looking to run paid ads as well.

Lesson learned

Lesson # 1 – Don’t scale alone.

This advice is brought to you by my coach.

I agree with her.

If I were to do everything on my own, I would burn out.

So, instead of hiring people, I am outsourcing everything.

With a little catch, outsourcers will work in my notion.

So that, if I want to take something in-house, I do not have a transition problem.

Lesson # 2 – It is important in marketing to know what not to do.

There are so many things in my head.

Ideas. Campaigns. Tactics.

And I want to connect with my audience everywhere.

But I cannot be everywhere.

I will spread thin. And my content quality will suffer.

I might be able to do this in the short term, but I will burn out very soon.

So, it is okay to let go of a few marketing channels.

Just focus on things that matter. And stick to them.

This will eventually pay off.

Content audit

This week, we will dissect the content of two of my favourite creators.

Jasmin Alic’s LinkedIn post

1200+ likes. 1500+ comments. 22 reposts.

His engagement strategy?

Out of these 1500, half of the comments are by the author himself.

He replies to everyone.

And his top 6 comments are his own.

And those 22 reposts are his true fans. They do whatever he says.

Now, let’s dissect the post structure.

Hook: 3 things I’d never do, say or share on LinkedIn

If you write about LinkedIn on LinkedIn. Your post will boost.

The same goes for Twitter as well.

His post structure is designed for readability. Easy to skim. Full of value. Easy CTA.

All checkboxes were ticked for a viral post.

Not to mention he has 213,404 followers on LinkedIn.

Let’s calculate his engagement rate.

Engagement rate is a metric used to assess the average number of interactions your social media content receives per follower.

The engagement rate is calculated as:

total-number-of-interactions/total-number-of-followers*100

2763 / 213404 * 100 = 1.29%

Justin Welsh’s Twitter Post

Justin Welsh is my favourite creator.

His words inspire me a lot.

I started The Notion Millionaire after getting inspired by him.

Nothing sells like social proof.

This tweet is a masterpiece of that.

This is a thread. And they perform pretty well on Twitter.

Engagements are 2500+.

Half the comments are by Justin himself.

But the thing is that even his comments have a good amount of impressions.

His engagement rate is 0.5%.

And out of this, his CTR would be around maybe less than that.

Around 0.15% at most.

So this single tweet must have landed him around 1000 website visits.

In the next week, I will be writing content on the following topics:

  • Outreach
  • VVP (you will learn this powerful tool to boost your outreach game)
  • How to close clients on call.
  • Building partnerships on LinkedIn.

These are the topics requested to me by recent subscribers.

If you have any requests, do let me know.

See you tomorrow,

Talha X
