This was my laziest week! Still, I managed to get everything done.

by Talha X

A friend of mine has invited me for Brunch.

But I wanted to touch base with you first before heading out for my brunch.

I love to have English Breakfast on Sundays.

It rejuvenates my soul.

What about you?

What breakfast do you prefer on Monday?

Anyhow, welcome to another Sunday Growth Diaries.

You already know that I started this series so that I can:

👉 Keep track of my journey

👉 Document my processes

👉 Plan for the next week

And most importantly share my journey with my subscribers.

✔️ The decisions I’ve made in the past week

✔️ The hurdles I’ve jumped

✔️ The lessons learned along the way

As another week on my journey to 1 million subscribers wraps up.

Here’s what’s been happening behind the scenes at The Notion Millionaire.

Last week was lazy.

I will be honest about my shortcomings.

I published only one blog. The goal was 2 blogs.

I published all content on social media and in the newsletter.

But I still feel, we could do a lot more than this.

At the moment, my team is not that efficient and my content pipeline does not run on auto-pilot.

Whether I am there or not.

And this was an unrealistic expectation.

So, instead of working on Slack, we are moving to the WhatsApp group for better comms.

Let’s see how that goes.

Weekly Overview

This week, my focus was on distribution platforms.

Which platforms to promote my newsletter on?

  • Target vs Reality
    • The goal for the week: Make a list of all the platforms where I can repurpose and publish my content without
    • Achieved: Some of the platforms were not suitable for us. And some were just too much for my team to take on at this time. The good news is we did expand our promotional channels.
  • Milestones
    • LinkedIn ✔️
    • Twitter ✔️
    • Pinterest ✔️
    • Quora ❌
    • Reddit ❌
    • Substack ❌
    • Medium ❌
    • SEO ❌
    • Product Hunt ✔️
    • Etsy ❌
    • Amazon ❌
    • Notion Marketplace ❌
  • Things I need to focus on:
    • Writing hooks
    • Community system in ghost
    • Quality of newsletter content
    • Notion templates
  • Numbers for this week

In the Spotlight

I am on top of everything, few things that I want to focus on:

  • More distribution channels
  • Add one more member to the team
  • Get client work done
  • Community setup (this has been my most difficult thing until now)

Strategic Insights

Marketing

You can’t be everywhere. It is important in marketing to know what not to do.

And I got greedy.

I wanted to be everywhere so that my message reaches a larger audience.

This is a good way to market.

But it will also burn resources very quickly.

And in the start, it is all about testing and doing things on any platform without any significant return.

So, build slowly but steadily.

Add more marketing channels gradually so that you and your team can get comfortable with it.

Lesson Learned

Lesson # 1

Don’t spread yourself too thin.

This goes with my above insight.

Do not stretch yourself or your team so thin that it either breaks down or you can’t get significant results from any channel.

Significant returns from this single platform will outperform mediocre results from various platforms.

And in my opinion, one writer can handle one channel at a time. Otherwise, the quality of written content will drop.

Lesson # 2

Outsource instead of hiring.

I cannot emphasize the importance of outsourcing for marketing agencies.

Especially when starting.

This is a good way to access experts without burning a lot of money.

But you must have a beautiful system for outsourcing.

I will talk about it in my next weekly issue of The Notion Millionaire.

Lesson # 3

Consistency beats everything on LinkedIn.

I learnt this lesson from LinkedIn Top Personal Branding Voice Rashiqua.

Consistently posting good quality content will get you more results than anything.

Why?

Because when you post consistently, you start gathering data:

  • what works
  • What doesn’t work
  • What gets engagements
  • What sparks

and based on all of this data, you are able to write content that goes viral.

And that is when you hit the jackpot.

So basically you are posting consistently for your own self more than for your audience.

Content Audit

LinkedIn Post

This post landed me more than 25+ subscribers to my LinkedIn newsletter.

This post taught me a few things:

  • LinkedIn discourages external links in social media posts
  • LinkedIn encourages internal links to articles and content pieces.
  • A good hook can be a game-changer for you
  • Good design complimented by good copy = high impressions.

Writing a good-performing LinkedIn post is an art in itself.

I will write something on this as well.

That is it for this week.

If you have any special requests and want me to write about anything.

You know where to find me.

Relaxed,
