Featured Guide – Level Up Your Freelance Game: Find High-Profit Upwork Niches
When I first started freelancing, I was against Upwork.
I hated the idea of a third-party commission agent.
Why should they take a percentage of my revenue?
I can get clients directly and keep 100%.
This idea and concept was naive.
Because my analysis was wrong.
Indeed, Upwork was taking 10% from me and my client.
But it also gives me better leads.
Leads that were ready to convert.
I just had to prove that I could do the work.
That’s it.
Whereas, on other sales channels like LinkedIn or cold emailing, I had to spend a lot of time on content creation, branding, network building, and relationship nurturing.
Most lead there were cold. So, the sales cycle was also longer.
I did a cost analysis.
If Upwork was taking a 10% fee and I was getting leads instantly, this is good.
As compared to LinkedIn or cold emailing, where there were a lot of nunances involved.
And my cost would still be more than 10%.
Plus the sales cycle or the time on ROI was significantly more than Upwork.
I am not doing an Analysis of Upwork and LinkedIn.
Just sharing, how I started on Upwork.
Once, I realized that Upwork was a good sales channel too.
I decided to go with it.
A lot of people said Upwork is too competitive. It is difficult to find clients on Upwork.
No one will respond.
You must have 2-3 orders from previous clients, otherwise it is useless.
There is no place for Newbies on Upwork.
I looked and smiled with a grin.
Because I knew they had no idea of what they were talking about.
And I also knew how to convert leads.
But I never dismissed my fellows’ caution of failing on Upwork.
There are a lot of industries on Upwork.
It is a whole economy.
There must be someplace for me as well.
I can have my piece of the pie as well.
So, instead of starting right away, I started researching on Upwork.
At the time, my brother was working on Upwork.
He and his partner agency are close to 800k on Upwork.
And my previous employer billed 3340 hours on Upwork.
And he charged $35-$55. Do the math.
I knew that I could do this for myself as well.
There must be a smarter way for a freelancer to make good money on Upwork.
That is when I discovered a formula for finding a profitable niche on Upwork.
This was a game-changer.
In 4 weeks, I was able to close 5 clients.
The average ticket size was 500 pounds.
And I sent 17-18 proposals in total.
Riches are in the niches.
This is 100% true on Upwork as well.
My main goal was to find a niche on Upwork, that is:
- Filled with lots of clients
- It is difficult work that no one wants to do
- Fewer freelancers
This way, I could charge what I want.
And work on my terms.
Trust me, even in most competitive industries like marketing, there are such niches.
This guide aims to help you discover such niches.
A systematic approach to finding niches, where you can make your mark.
Why Niche Discovery is Crucial for Upwork Success
It will transform your freelancing career or agency business.
It only takes one good client to turn things around for you.
By focusing on a niche, you can design your services to:

Moreover, a well-chosen niche allows you to streamline your sales process, making it easier to attract and retain clients.
